I rather enjoyed this. Groove is in the Heart is highly irritating because it is over familiar. There was a period between late summer and early autumn in 1990 where you couldn't escape this song. The rest of the album surprised me in a good way. The house tracks and pumping piano actually got my dancing around my MacBook. There's more depth to the album than I was expecting. I had no idea Bootsy Collins was involved.
Groove Is In The Heart is a timeless funky pop classic. Sadly the rest of this album is, for me, not up to this high watermark. To be fair, it would be hard to write a whole album with tunes that good, but the dawn-of-the-90s house stylings of the other tracks don’t really fit with Groove, and also sound of their time to me. This album has not aged as well it could have, but still worth a spin through to get to what is one of the all-time classic pop dance records.
