I adored this when I first heard it many moons ago. And Strychnine is still a punk classic, despite the various attempts to murder it, not least by The Fall. Along with Psycho, the original compositions are the standouts here. Overall, this feels like a US version of the early Stones . Have Love is a lot of fun, but hearing this again, these are largely fairly straightforward covers, and mostly not a patch on the originals in terms of energy. You probably had to be here, but - perhaps because of time elapsed - this wasn't as as thrilling as I remembered it to be. Psycho and Strychnine do make it worth the price of admission on their own, but they make me that wish they'd written a few more of their own songs.

Energy! Rawness! Rock 'n' Roll with cardigans! The Sonics were a new one for me. It's quite a find. It's an album that's impossible to sit still whilst listening. I bet the live experience is where the real action was. It's no masterpiece in terms of production, but that's not the point. The Sonics sound like they genuinely believe in what they're doing. Half an hour later and I was a convert.
