i’ve kinda been whatever about this album historically because i like all the SMS versions of the songs so much better than the studio ones*, and as a result i never really bother to listen to this album. but this time i reallllllyyyyyy liked it. a really terrific depiction of paranoia, an everyday sense of doom. i think if i had revisited this during covid it would have really and truly broken my brain i guess i’m glad i was ambivalent toward it for so long. ‘paper’ and ‘air’ both jumped out at me this time around. *i still think this but the only studio version i think is notably inferior is ‘life during wartime’…nothing compares to the live version! fav tracks: i zimbra; heaven; mind; cities; electric guitar; paper
