Still listen to this album regularly to this day. My read on much of the lyrical content has changed over the decades, some for better, some for worse, but overall I still love this album and all the great audio tricks used in its production.
No way not to rate this 5/5. Classic album that I love entirely.
When I was getting into metal and rock, I thought synth was the enemy and poo-poo’d NIN. By the time I got over my biases, they were a little too mainstreamy for my liking and I struggled to get into them. I… still don’t get it. It’s like Trent Reznor wants Skinny Puppy’s credit but also wants to be as big as a new wave act, and the sounds don’t work for me. Also, “Hurt” has really embarrassing lyrics and only works with a Johnny Cash to class it up. D
