Really enjoy the spacyness of this punk record. Vocals range from raging and intense to serene cleans. Guitars are frantic and reverb-drenched. I've never really dug into Pixies, but this was way more eclectic than I expected. Enjoyed quite a bit though it falls off a little in the latter half. Highlights: Rock Music, Velouria, Is She Weird, Down To The Well

I really do like the Pixies, but I don’t tend to spin much of their stuff past their first two albums + Come On Pilgrim. Playing this in full for the first time in ages reminds me of why. This really does feel like their attempt to court the mainstream, and has less of the charming idiosyncrasies that makes their earlier stuff timeless. Still, when it hits it hits, and it has plenty of bangers to make it worth adding to the collection. B

First Pixies record I ever bought. Played the hell out of it, but as I started collecting the rest of their records this one became the least favorite of them all as a teenager. Listening to this now; I don't know why this ever fell to the bottom. The reverbed out guitar, the super clean vocal harmonies, Black Francis' range from velvety smooth to gnarly growls, experimenting with the spacey dissonant melodies that made Trompe Le Monde such a great album. Easily a 5/5 album.
