This is good quality pop. To me, it has the grit bands like Coldplay are lacking. Perhaps it's the vocals? The sound is globally not that clean; sure there are crystalline arpeggio but also its load of saturated guitars. The first half is pretty high enery, the second half is much more boring though.

I was totally going to skip listening to this because I assumed I'd hate it. But then I heard track 2, "Mr. Brightside", and realized that the scene in the movie The Holiday has made me like at least that song, so I gave it a go...And then I got to that other very overplayed hit, "Somebody Told Me" and remembered I REALLY hate that song, and then I recognized/disliked the next one...Me and pop simply have a very fragile relationship.

I knew that The Killers exist, but they somehow stayed under my radar. I enjoyed listening to the album.

The Killers scored a massive hit with this debut album, but for some reason it doesn’t seem to stick with me. I’ve only just listened to it, but I doubt that I could hum the chorus to Mr Brightside if I tried. Musically it’s somewhere between Coldplay and Zooroopa era U2, with an oddly nasal sounding vocal effect applied to lead singer Brandon Flowers on all of the songs. Ok I guess, but I probably wouldn’t listen to it again.
