I can appreciate Gaye's great voice even though the genre is not particularly my favourite and this kind of albums always sound a bit dated to me. The age particularly show in the arrangements; some songs have great background music to go with Gaye's voice, some others are a bit dull and boring with too many strings and mellow melodies. When the brass come or the rhythm kicks in, it's another story!
This album definitely hits hard while being easy to listen to. Songs about racial injustice, poverty, war and pollution by one of the great soul voices. Hugely influential at the time and it still is relevant today.
