I’m no expert on R&B and soul, and I’d never presume to offer a detailed analysis of this music. However, Amy Winehouse’s extraordinary talent as a songwriter and singer is clear for all to see. Her skill was immediately apparent. Her debut album "Frank" presented a hopelessly old-fashioned sound that was delivered with such conviction that it effortlessly cut through the perfect, artificial world of the boy and girl bands of the early 2000s. Finally, class and personality were back. The big hit singles were still two or three years away, but her true talent was already fully formed. What a tragedy to have lost her so soon.
