NOTE: Started listening to this, sort of lost interest halfway then came back to it after a few days and it actually grew on me a lot on the second listen. There are definitely bits of this that fall a bit flat — I think the instrumental tracks, while certainly interesting, border on straightforwardly unpleasant, and some of the main tracks are too polished and almost bubblegum-y for my liking in a way that feels strange for a concept album. That being said, there are tracks where I think the emotionality that underscores the project does really shine through and where they really nail it, and that's what I am ultimately left with at the end of the album; the highs are really wonderful and the beautiful soundscapes that they create on the album really help with that. Was going to give this a 4, but I do think the corniness of some of the tracks holds it back, and my first impression wasn't great, so a 3 it is.
