The Hour Of Bewilderbeast
Badly Drawn Boy

I recognise the album cover but nothing else is familiar… The album starts off on a slow kind of a slow waking up tone with the shining it slowly builds up into just stopping and a completely different acoustic track comes up it’s okay strange lyrics but good song. The song flows perfectly into everybody’s stalking a more traditional rock sounding song it’s good but not in the top rock songs of all time. Bewilder is just a small interlude don’t love it don’t hate it. Fall in the river is a rather “ rusty” sounding track it’s got great guitars one strumming one picking. The only problem is it’s just one verse. Then some weird in water bit. Camping next to water is a more subtle song it’s got good lyrics and I like the way the instruments kinda spiral round his voice to act as a chorus without really building up anything. Stone on the water has a cool intro slowly building up like the first song did this time to actually form a song of itself it’s an alright song but it takes so long to get there that it’s not worth it. Another pearl is a more pop/rock song now this is amazing, at this point I was honestly getting bored with the album but this is redemption! Body rap is a rather cool funky interlude. Theres a slight wah wah sounding thing on once around the block that makes it sound pretty cool and there’s a break where you can hear crackle noises it’s a really well made song. This song is a short song a happy song a good song that turns into quite a distorted 60’s sounding song at the end of the song. Bewilderbeast is a good but rather long instrumental to be fair i’am not a huge instrumental’s fan so this isn’t really my kinda thing. Magic in the air has a great piano/ acoustic guitar combo at the start which makes it sound almost fantasy like then it only focuses on the piano for the rest of the song which is unique for this album probably a favourite. Cause a rockslide is a rockier track really well made the only thing is i’am not a fan of the supporting chords guitar that only plays in one ear. The rest of it’s good though. Until the spooky instrumental that takes up the back half of the song not good even when there’s the acoustic bit at the end! I’am sorry but any song called pissing in the wind is gonna be stupid. Well a bit at least it’s a very oddly upbeat yet gloomy track and it probably would’ve worked better as a shorter song as this just drags by a good minute . Blistered heart is a nice enough instrumental but it’s so useless. Disillusion is rather upbeat and a good choice for a single very upbeat and poppy for this album it’s really enjoyable a good surprise. The penultimate track say it again is gloomy and slow like being stuck in some spooky forest blended with a classic folk sounding song honestly a surprise. The album closes off with epitaph a decent closer that sounds like he’s out in the forest with the birds singing not a favourite but I like it. This is one of those albums where for the most part the singles are really the best songs for me it’s a well formed album but just too long and too instrumental.
