I don’t love Springsteen but I don’t hate him either… The album opens with it’s title track a very basic all American sounding ballad. It’s okay except the harmonica at the start… yuck. Atlantic city sounds like something a group of musicians will be playing at a street festival loud, folkish and somewhat uninteresting. Things slow down with mansion on the hill but the criticisms are still the same. Springsteen’s echoey vocals don’t work In Johnny 99 but it’s not dreadful just okay. Both highway patrolman and used cars are dull and lack anything to really review them of. State trooper appears in between the last two songs mentioned and well this one is cool to be fair, the album’s rockiest track with a bad arse guitar riff ( for an acoustic) and the screaming at the end somehow works perfectly! Open all night is also a fairly rocky cut using an electric guitar and one of the better songs by far. Then my father’s house is boring yet a solid song. I don’t get reason to believe being the closer over my father’s house but this song is still one of the best songs on the album, not my kinda thing, but still great! This is the most by the book 3 that I could ever give it’s solid there are little actually bad songs but plentiful of boring slow pieces and yeah I’ll give him that he is a good lyricist but not good enough to save him from the mid tier.
