The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths

You can say what you want about Morrisey I don’t care he’s a cock but he’s an amazing musician and his life outside music shouldn’t be used as an argument to give the album a 1 especially if you might’ve not even listened to the album. Instead you get something absolutely amazing and now i’am going to go track by track highlighting how great the album is… The queen is dead: An amazing opening statement to the album, I love the drumming (particularly after the “take me back to dear old blighty part”)always on point but everything in the song shines and it’s not even my favourite and it’s still all perfect. Frankly, mr shankly: It’s odd to me how this jaunty little two minute track about commercialism is on par with the epic title track. I don’t know why but it’s amazing probably the first one I fell in love with (I especially like the “I never realised you wrote such bloody awful poetry” line). I know it’s over: An extremely depressed beautiful track certainly another banger but I don’t really know what to note about this one. Never had no one ever: It’s mostly instrumental with only a few (amazing) lines but still feels fulfilling for the whole listen. Certainly proof that there’s three other people in the the smiths and not just Morrisey. Cemetery gates: Side ones closer and a track that I like but it’s never really been one that I’ve fell in love with in the exact same way as the rest of side one and most of the album still nice though. Bigmouth strikes again: There’s a rule that in a record that side two track one must be a banger, bigmouth strikes again doesn’t just do that it as it is also the smiths greatest song everything works to perfection on this track! The boy with the thorn on his side: Strong vocal performance by Morrisey on here the rest of the track isn’t necessarily one of my favourites on the record but still solid. Vicar in a tutu: Probably the most interesting title for a track that’s a bit of a letdown on first listen but over time it shows that the smiths could have fun for one! There is a light that never goes out: It’s a personal preference of mine that a great album has to have the second to last track as one of the best tracks this penultimate track certainly tops the bill for that absolutely amazing! Some girls are bigger than others: The fade in is cool, I know it’s a joke closer but still a banger…somehow?
