My prior knowledge of this band is that I’ve listened to bits of them before (mostly random tracks off the album before (lost souls)) hearing the intro paired with words I firmly believe this is a bit of a downgrade form catch the sun and the cedar room. The intro was a fairly generic instrumental and words sounds like a more electronic late career oasis song. Instrumentally the next track (there goes the fear) sounds like a children’s lullaby and having a 6 minute long song so early kinda breaks the pace for me. M62 song goes for that “indie sound” it’s really dull but I kinda like the way the track is sung I didn’t even notice the track after until it started playing (oh well). N.Y is cool but I think it should’ve came before all the slow ones still though it’s proof that doves still know what they’re doing. Satellites is way too long for what it is and feels quite generic but nothing horribly bad. Fridays dust is haunting with the echoey vocals not something I love but I must say it is enjoyable. Pounding is a great single can’t fault it. Similarly to M62 song last broadcast is a bit dull and sounds like it’s going for the “ indie sound”. The sulphur man sounds grand and evil… for a few seconds then becomes really vanilla really quickly. Caught by the river is a nice slow single to end the album. The reason why post britpop is nowhere near as good as britpop is because post britpop like this is so fucking vanilla!
