Wow, I never listened to this album because I’m not a huge hip hop listener, though I definitely appreciate it in small doses and I like several OutKast albums. As I’m typing this I realize that I sound like an old person, but I’m too lazy to reframe it and at 42, maybe I’m old anyway. I always assumed that I would prefer the Andre 3000 side of this album based on the Hey Ya single vs. The Way You Move (also a banger), based on the feel and prior OutKast output. Well, the Big Boi side (Disc 1) is getting the edge from me. I think the Andre side was trying to be more experimental, non-rapping, but it just falls flat overall to me. There are definite highlights and it actually gets better in the second half, but the Big Boi side feels more cohesive, honest, stronger, and just a better overall listen. Basically a solid 3/5. Can’t be a 2 and it can’t be a 4.
