Younger Than Yesterday
The Byrds

I loved "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" when it came up on this list so I was quite happy to see this one come up. However unfortunately this just was not it for me. I liked the last one because it seemed like a nice take on psych rock which almost sounded a little like early shoegaze in parts. But this one just feels a little like a simple pop song compilation with a few quirky bits to keep the psych rock label. That wouldn't be bad if they were great pop songs but not many really stuck out to me they were just alright, and it doesn't help the fact that the best song and the song that relates to the album title "My Back Pages" is actually just a cover to a Bob Dylan song? I don't mind that they use songwriters, Carole King wrote a few songs for them too and that is okay, but the title track being a cover not just written for them but someone else's song, permission or not, does not feel like a good characteristic for an album. I sound harsh but I still enjoyed the sound just not enough, 1 star would be too harsh so 2 is fine. Stand out songs: Have You Seen Her Face Renaissance Fair My Back Pages Edit* So I looked up the ratings on rym and people love this album. What am I missing? I haven't seen many good points only ones I disagree with but it is all subjective I guess. No one has changed my mind.
