This is one of Springsteen's weaker albums. Dated 80s sound, pretty pedestrian lyrics (where are the gritty character sketches?). Even the vaunted title track has some parts where he's just searching for something meaningful to say. And No Surrender? Come on... hackneyed crap. And you know what I think he (Springsteen) knows it. Pretty sad when Dancing in the Dark is the best song. Check that, I think it's Glory Days and Going Down and Hometown that ALMOST save this turd of an album. OK Hometown is a good song. 3 stars, reluctantly! Fuck it....2 stars!
