The Pixies had an insane run of albums from 1987-1991. It's possibly one of the greatest album runs in the history of music. Even though I prefer the two albums that followed (Doolittle and Bossanova) this is the album that really cemented the band as one of the greats. While its not as consistent as Doolittle, there are still plenty of fun and memorable tracks here. Some of the stand outs are "Bone Machine" and "Gigantic". Of course then there's the elephant in the room.. This album contains one of the greatest songs of all time. "Where Is My Mind?" is one of those defining songs that really changed the game. The second half of the album just cannot compete with it or even some of the other songs from the first half, but there are still a few notable tracks. Overall Surfer Rosa is a very punchy, fun album that I have a lot of appreciation for. I just love the Pixies so much man so any excuse to listen to them is a treat. Favorite track: Where Is My Mind? (I mean what else could it be?) 4.5/5
