My first exposure to Avalanches was a friend gushing over frontier psychologist. He showed me the music video and my thoughts were, "this is alright, nothing special, sounds alot like the plunderphonics of Gotye". As I soon came to realise these guys were quite ahead of their time and Gotye, Onetrix Point Never and a lot of others owe them a lot. They're started a trend amongst Australian musicians for the better and plunderphonics, although not the first, does feel distinctly Australian. In the same vein as Ozploitation Cinema. My second exposure to this band was a situation with a lesbian who ruined my life. She had great taste in music though. And thankfully she made me give them a second chance and I'm glad I did. 8/10
