I've never been that into Deep Purple outside of a few songs. I sort of see them as the genesis of a lot of styles and tropes in hard rock/metal that I really hate -- unfocused songwriting, extended wonky solos, vocal histrionics, etc. While some of these songs have a decent framework, there's a lot of aspects of it I just find irritating and don't get a ton of enjoyment out of it overall. I think "Speed King" is decent, and "Living Wreck" is pretty cool. I can see why people love "Child in Time", but it's doesn't quite get there for me. Light 3 stars.
