Ágætis Byrjun
Sigur Rós

I got this when it was released. The CD packaging was unique. It was one of those paper jewel cases with a single color silver ink. This was heavily promoted on KCRW and a friend of mine LOVED this so much that when he was a camp advisor / counselor at some swanky summer camp for kids he built a breakout session around listening and enjoying Sigur Rós and similar Icelandic music. But as the summer camp filled up he was forced to cancel the offering for lack of interest. This is one of those albums that you either love or hate. For me, it tics all the boxes. It’s unique, has lost of white space, soft and relaxing, otherworldly, even (and had cool packaging). But for whatever reason I am repulsed by this. It makes me wanna crawl outta my skin. Nothing ever seems to happen and the repetitiveness gives this feeling of boundless purgatory. I had a visceral reaction to this on par with Gotan Project, Limp Bizkit, Gunfighter X and Duck Stab.
