Nilsson Schmilsson
Harry Nilsson

There’s something gloriously weird and wonderful about Nilsson Schmilsson. I came into this album not knowing quite what to expect, and it still managed to throw me off in the best way. Harry Nilsson’s voice is buttery smooth but he’s clearly a bit of a mischief-maker underneath it all. Tracks like “Coconut” feel like he’s taking the mick, while “Jump Into the Fire” is a proper sweaty freak-out jam that somehow fits right alongside the gentle, heart-wrenching “Without You”. I really enjoyed the mix of playfulness and sincerity here. It bounces between genres like it’s got somewhere better to be, and even when it veers into novelty territory, it’s still clever, catchy and hard to fault. You get the sense Nilsson was doing exactly what he wanted, and it just so happens that what he wanted was to make something both cheeky and timeless. Not every track is perfect, but when this album hits, it really hits. It’s got heart, hooks, and just enough chaos to keep it from ever feeling safe.
