1001 Albums Summary

Listening to this in 2021 seems derivative, but there were a lot of standouts in this album the songs have a very clean structure, and good variation. They never dwell too long on any given theme or melody which keeps you engaged. will probably need a few more listens to form a full opinion

Age has not been kind to this album. The mixing is laughable by modern standards. Really muddy mids and an over-reliance on the 808 sound that was so popular at the time. The second half of the album is really where it shines. you start to see the beginnings of Kanye's signature soul-sampled sound Despite all this, the album still has a bunch of standout tracks: Never Let Me Down, Slow Jamz, Two Words, Through the Wire, Last Call
