Wow! I came into this dreading an album full of 9 minute songs of musical masturbatory guitar solos, but that couldn't have been further from the case. The songs were short and rocking. Guitar work was tasteful and impressive and I was blown away by the percussion section. It felt like a jazz album of rock with a Latin feel.
Pop trying to be metal. I understand why it was popular in its day; tough dudes felt like they could like a "rock" band that still got ladies to shake it. Song writing is solid pop writing and production is over layered and over compressed....but I guess that became the iconic def leppard sound. "Run Riot" had interesting time changes between straight and half time, and the verse also had an interesting odd meter time signature thrown in every 4 bars or so.

This is bad. Ive never been fond of the "new Jack swing" genre, but this has little redeeming qualities. The only beat that I found mildly interesting is The Humpty Dance, and I don't know if it's actually intriguing or just nostalgia.
Not a classic rock fan, but this album has undeniable hits that are still staples 35 years later. A godfather of the blues rock genre. Songs tend to go longer than they should, but im guessing they were written with the live show in mind, where they would have been fucking epic in 1976. I guess Boston is a little better than the Eagles.
Pink floyd meets beach boys production meets bob segar.
