1001 Albums Summary

I have not connected much with James Brown's music in the past. It always felt so dated. Having listened to a lot more swing music these past years, I feel like I'm listening to this in a slightly new light. I'm enjoying the more up-beat numbers - the slower tracks don't do much for me. Enjoyed the percussion, enjoyed the brass hits, enjoyed the backup singers. Still don't understand James' singing style. Nevertheless incredible for a live performance.

A few nice tracks. Overall too melancholy for me. Would need to be in a very specific mood to enjoy this.

I'm very familiar with Belle & Sebastian's work from the early 2000's. As such I'm finding it hard to get into this earlier 1996 album. It's interesting to see where they started, but I much prefer the later work I'm used to!

Overall great listen! Was not familiar with most of the album - on first listened there were some real standouts. Second listen is getting even better.
