The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Sep 22 2021

Fairly cool album I hadn't heard - I can definitely hear the influence they had on Belle & Sebastian who I love, especially on She Bangs The Drums which sounds a lot like an early B&S track. Fool's Gold is a tune also, I'd heard it but didn't realise it was them, v. different to the rest of the album tho. Didn't find the album mind-blowing but it's pretty pleasant and an interesting early Brit-pop entry in between The Smiths and Oasis, Blur etc. with some interesting 1950s/60s influences that made me think of bands like The Zombies and The Turtles.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies

Very cool album! Love how raucous, stompy and fun it is - definitely laid the way for lots of bands after them - mad me think lots of Arcade Fire. Feels very foundational and exciting - NICE

WOW!!! I actually think I'd never listened to this through before. What a masterpiece. The Beatles at their poppy, trippy best - incredible album from start to finish - love the weirdness of Day in The Life, Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite, and Within You Without You. Such a solid concept album too!

Sunshine Superman by Donovan
Sep 29 2021

A quite beautiful psychedelic album with some iconic tracks, but a little slow in parts!

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain

Cool dreamy vibes, grungy but melodic. Was very surprised they're Scottish as it's a very American sound - nice guitars and vocals.

Great album, iconic beats and so lovely. Less weird than some of the later stuff but so polished and listenable.
