No Other by Gene Clark
Jun 26 2024

The beginning of this album made me think I was in for another Country Music album, I was expecting much of the same following the first minute or so of Life's Greatest Fool. But as the album goes on, the style progresses, sticking with its country-feel but taking more of a rock/pop influence. Surprised I ended up loving it as much as I did, Strength of Strings really stands out to me as a bit of a masterpiece from lyrics to composition. 4 stars for me.

1989 by Taylor Swift
Jun 27 2024

If you live your life near a switched-on radio, one that plays some level of pop music, it is more than likely you have heard Taylor Swift's music. I am definitely familiar with her music, but I have never actually listened to a full album. I'm sure, to understand the importance of 1989, you would have to be familiar with her previous work - I can think of songs like "Love Story" for example - and this album seems to document her journey into a more processed approach to her music. That is not necessarily a bad thing, every song on this album could be a hit, all under the lens of modern music. Catchy track after catchy track this album really is an ear-worm. A masterpiece? Perhaps. I can see why fans of pop music love this album, If upbeat pop that iant quite bubblegum is your thing, '1989' is a must-listen.
