Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Oct 13 2022

Never really understood guns n roses, let’s see how this goes Welcome To The Jungle - absolute banger apart from OTT vocals and cheesy ending 8.5/10 It’s So Easy - decent intro, vocals too much in the opposite direction, boring. Steady on with the cowbell. Weak chorus, ok riffs and solo. “Fuck off” lol 5/10 Nighttrain - arsehole cowbell again. like the vocals here, nice thick guitars. Solid chorus. Best solo yet, awkward fade out 7/10 Out Ta Get Me - meaty intro, good vocals again, Iron Maiden vibes pre chorus, AC/DC vibes in chorus. More awkward fucks. Not bad, bit boring 6/10 Mr. Brownstone - nice drum intro, nice groove, bit funky this one. They’re doing the bo diddley thing. Shit vocals. Solid track 7/10 Paradise City - classic intro, superb. Headbanging time in the verse. Much better vocals overall. Massive chorus, such a good hook. Like the funky bridge and double time ending. Actually drags on a bit at the end. Kinda sick of it now 8/10 My Michelle - Like the sound of this intro a lot, something different. Oh nevermind, it’s just the same again. Nice enough riff. Cowbell again. Dog shit chorus. 5/10 Think About You - Honestly fuck off with the cowbell man. All sounds a bit flat. Clumsy vocals and lyrics. Fucking horrible guitar in the chorus, does not fit at all, horrific on headphones. See what they’re trying but no. Yawn 4/10 Sweet Child O’ Mine - never been a big fan but sounds incredible after the last couple of turds. Guitars fantastic, legendary riff, sweet bass. Still find vocals a bit grating. Chorus simple and to the point. Ending is class. Best yet, massive for a reason 9/10 You’re Crazy - fun upbeat track, one of the better vocals. Not much to say, good solid tune. 7/10 Anything Goes - sounds decent, kinda like the vocoder/talk box thing, must be where Dave grohl got the idea. Cool back and forth with the guitar solo. Another solid track, no problems with this 7/10 Rocket Queen- riff sounds a bit awkward and goofy. Gone a bit flat again, vocal effect sounds like shit in chorus. Not much of a closer. No need for the moaning, especially in a song this ugly. Jangly indie guitar actually works at the end here. Wtf this is decent why not make this a separate song? All over the shop 5/10 Still don’t get it. I can see why the big hit singles are so popular, and they were chosen as singles for a reason as nothing else stands out at all. A couple decent upbeat jams towards the end but pretty average overall. Not sure what makes them stand out amongst all the other bands that sound like this, and Axl Rose has a brutal voice. Some brilliant stuff from Slash and the rest of the band to be fair. Nondescript lyrics all round, nothing jumped out and not sure what any of the songs were about. Won’t come back to this, not my cup of tea. 6/10 because the high points are very good.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Oct 14 2022

First time hearing this and it’s wide reaching influence is clear to see, I can hear shades of everything from modern dance and electronic music to 80s pop, post punk and bands like Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem, as a result it doesn’t sound dated at all. Great uplifting opener followed by a couple excellent and well written songs, the TEE section is dark and hypnotic, very reminiscent of a modern techno set, and the final two tracks are soothing and melodic with a nice callback to the opener. Sounds fantastic on headphones and flows beautifully as an album, nothing outstays it’s welcome and could easily be listened to on repeat (and will be). Great stuff all round, I imagine this will get even better with time.
