1001 Albums Summary

This whole album sounds like the ending of an intellectual independent drama movie. While not especially a bad thing, it also failed to give me any emotion that didn't require some cerebral processing. I understand it's an album any "serious" music fan should revere, but it was just not entertaining enough for me. Everything is "nice" about this album. The lyrics are outstanding, the guitar is beautiful, even Cohen's often criticised voice fits nicely, but is it really music or a dark bohemian intellectual masturbation to listen to when you're cold or canadian or christian?

Not having followed Bob Dylan's career thoroughly, I was surprised to discover a radically different voice on this album. A voice that fits the songs very well, since there is so much blues and mortality on this album. No song missed the target, and some of them were absolutely brilliant.

Unfortunately, I came to this album with prejudice. I've had enough of that cover-friendly butt rock for middle-aged rockers with dubious body hygiene. And it was exactly that. I already knew the hits and none of the "lesser known" stuff really made me pay attention at all. I'd listen to Led Zeppelin all day before ever playing a GnR record. The only upside this record has in my opinion is that it came out in '87, thus filling a relative void in commercial rock.

Nope, I really didn't like it. Every song here has been done with more taste before.
