Track 1: Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) - I had heard this song before just because of its notoriety. I like the 'ack ack ack.' Also the backing vocals are pretty sweet. It reminds me of Piano Man, following these different stories in the city. The cymbals are really nice on the verses. The backing tracks fit Joel too. The song has such different paces throughout, it is interesting. (He is moving out) Track 2: The Stranger - Piano intro very nice. Whistling very nice. Very campy. Now we kick off with the guitar. This riff is fire. Relating heavily to the album cover. Trying on a new face that you do not show to the people around you. Book ending we got more piano and whistling. Pretty sure it is the same as well. Then silence. Track 3: Just the Way You Are - Probably the most popular song this album. I have heard it so many times. Oh hell yeah saxophone. Perhaps Richie Cannata. Almost an antithesis to the last track lol. Joel now loves the secrets that have been let out. The Saxophone just like with the piano last track carries us out. Track 4: Scenes from an Italian Restaurant - I like the little "italian" esque interludes. Ok the sax is back second best track. Wow this is a long track. The tone has definitely changed. It feels like the first verse was asking out someone on a date. While the second verse was the chaotic beauty of going on the date. We are back to Joel singing about different characters lol. BrendaxEddie ship it now. It feels like we have switched from a first person pov to a third person pov. Now we got a sax that is upbeat even though the relationship is slowly coming apart. The drumming on this song is particularly carrying us through the track. Song has to end Joel didn't stick around long enough for the end of the story. Oh hell yeah. We are back to the beginning. Seems to be a common theme for this album. Life being a cycle or something. Perhaps Brenda and Eddie are finding someone else to meet in an Italian restaurant. Saxophone carries us out once more. Track 5: Vienna - Austria time. Like so many songs we are starting out with a sole piano. A reflection on youth hmmmm. I really like this one. Can just kind of vibe out to it. We got some of the same instrumentals from Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. Taking a phone off the hook seems a little more poignant now lol. Feels like a self reflection for sure. Track 6: Only the Good Die Young - I have heard this at many barbeques. Joel anti-catholic tirade /j. Feels very late 70s lol. Bad boy trying to date a "good girl" lmao. Grease movie plot. I like the clapping a lot. Might be the best vocals on any track for me so far. That raspy saxophone *chefs kiss*. Probably the best dancing song lol. I like it. Track 7: She's Always a Woman - Starting out with a ballad almost. I think all of these songs have pertained to romance in some sense maybe besides the first track. Had to move out before finding love? I think I am reading to far into it. Oh damn she cutting him. Hope it is metaphorical. All these songs are just generally pleasant to listen to. Oh yeah hum that shit. Track 8: Get it Right the First Time - Ooh is that the bass. And a flute? This song is just pretty groovy. Don't really got to much to say about it lol. I did not get it right the first time :(. There is a very finite feeling to all of Joel's songs lol. Do what you want before your chance passes. Especially on track 1 and this track. I like the strumming at the end. Track 9: Everybody Has a Dream - Last track! Feels like another self reflection for sure. A song that an artist would definitely relate too. Feels like a high school graduation playoff song. Or an album send off (hehe). A very romantic dream. Feel like I should be swaying with arms over people's shoulders. Backing tracks are very nice. Makes the song feel communal. Oh shit there is more! The piano and whistling once again! I believe it is the same music from The Stranger. Track 1 now feels even more out of place lol. This is a book end for "The Stranger." Just as many tracks are. The cycle of life I suppose. Oh shit it looped and Movin' Out jump scared the shit outta me. Pretty good. Pretty good. I like Movin' Out but it feels almost out of place with the rest of the album. The others songs all pertain to love. Maybe Movin' Out is how he is able to experience all these different love stories he portrays in the rest of the songs. It is not typically my kind of music but I enjoy it immensely still. I liked the balance of ballad type beats and a groovy energetic instrumental. All in all. I give this a 8/10.
