Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
May 13 2023

My verdict near the beginning was correct - this isn't my favorite, but I'm not offended by any of it. It's simple and pleasant, it does what it does well. I don't think it's outstanding but I can see why some people do. One complaint I have is that it's a little repetitive, The Stranger Song and Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye (along with another song I can't remember; Master Song, maybe?) have similar vocal melodies. It's very easy to notice similarities because it's so sparse. It also gets more boring in the last few tracks. But it's nice!

I'll be honest - I didn't listen to the full album, only 6 tracks. Call me lame for doing that, but I could not stand listening to this album. The guy's voice is super nasally, he enunciates everything like he's just gotten off of a spinning teacup ride, and all he seems to know how to do is play 2 chords on the guitar. (There's also a lot of harmonica, but I just don't like the sound of that instrument. It's good though because usually it points to the end of the song so I don't have to listen to it anymore.) Not even the lyrics are interesting like the last album I listened to! I'm sure Bob Dylan has better stuff than this, a live album probably wouldn't be the best introduction to many artists. (If he sounds anything close to this on his studio albums I'm never listening to him again. Or any folk, for that matter.)
