1001 Albums Summary

I enjoyed this album more than I thought. I'm not the biggest fan of folk/country, but Emmylou has a gorgeous voice and I really liked her cover of "For No One". I knew I recognized it, but I didn't know from where, and assumed I must have just heard it before. Looked it up just to figure out it was a Beatles tune and that a lot of this album was covers. That's not very common nowadays, but I think it's something that should be explored more. She really made each one her own, they sounded like they belonged to her. That's a quality not many vocalists have.

Goddamn songs were long in the 80s. Pop hits though. Some really cool harmonies. The lyrics are just okay, they're not particularly sticky nor do they seem to mean much, but they generally work. It's incredibly listenable, though there are more than a few throwaways - I could do without the ballads on this album.

This album is my speed. I would listen to this for Oleyada inspiration for sure. It's giving sophisticated rom-com, and that's high praise. Sometimes it's too 80s though. It's at its best when it commits to being a pop album.

Its opening is heavenly. The lyrics are so well crafted, whether they're simple and profound, or steeped in metaphor. I love the vocal effects, the harmonies, and the sounds in this album; everything is so clear. The 60s sound so good, this album aged so well.
