The Wall by Pink Floyd
May 23 2023

A truly gargantuan project in every sense of the word. The sheer scale of this thing is pretty incredible, it’s easy to see how it has gathered such a cult like following and holds such a strong reputation more than 40 years after its release. All that being said, I think I found the enormity of the wall almost became an obstacle to me (although I suppose that could in a sense be the point heh). While I found the instrumentation lavish and the performances compelling, I think I’d have enjoyed a little more diversity in structure and style. I enjoyed the overall concept of the album but again due to its enormous scale I think this is a piece that I’ll have to revisit numerous times in order to truly get it. Also the weird wompy stompy theatrical track was fun but it begin to grind on me quite a bit. Calling it a 3.5 for, over time will become a 4 or high for me I am certain. Got a little lost in the track listing but I think the opening track probably left the greatest impression on me.

Suzanne Vega by Suzanne Vega
May 24 2023

I’m still not sure exactly how I felt about this one. It’s oftentimes lovely and clearly very considered. For me, the the high points were evocative, textured and held just enough emotional weight to really pull me in. The only thing is that I found said high points a little too few and far between for this thing to really grab me. The lyrics I found to be overwritten throughout many of the tracks, the manner in which every line kept rhyming began to feel forced and extravagant to the point that it started to distract me from what the song was trying to say. The final track on the album seemed like such an uneventful petering out, especially following up knight moves which was one of the stand outs to me and would’ve served as a much more potent closer.

Moving Pictures by Rush

Led zeppelin with synthesisers. Did pretty much nothing for me, one of my least least favourite classic rock flavours. Bumping this up to 2 stars because at least XYZ was an interesting track. Fav track : XZY

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
May 29 2023

LCD sound system always represented a bit of a gap in my listening experience. This was the first time I’ve actually listened to this album in its entirety and I’m struggling to think of why I didn’t do so much sooner. I had so much fun with this, it’s simply infectious. The writing, performances and production were all top notch. Slightly astounded at how effectively layered these songs are, so many grooves and rhythms interplaying in a way that feels organic and alive without ever getting too crowded or muddled. A lovely mix of more emotional hitters and fun bops. 4.5 stars Fave track: all my friends

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
May 30 2023

Oh man, how lovely, perhaps the ultimate soundtrack to a sunny afternoon. It’s interesting to see the beginnings of an artist that would go on to become such an enormous cultural figure. Marleys writing and performances are charming, but I don’t think I’ve ever stopped to consider the work of the Whalers as a collective. The choir work and vocal harmonies really defined this for me, so infectious. No matter how much I can appreciate elements of this album however I don’t think it’ll ever progress to more than a “throw it on in the background” status for me, an enjoyable but casual listen for me. 3.5 stars Fav track: high tide or low tide

Rejoicing In The Hands by Devendra Banhart
May 31 2023

Ngl I kinda powered through this since I’m trying to catch up. Fairly sleepy one for me, nothing that really grabbed me but nothing offensive either.

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Jun 01 2023

Pretty fun! Enjoyed it much more than I was expecting to. I’m not sure why but in my head this was gonna be a bit of a harsh and glitchy listen but I was pleasantly surprised at how strong some of the grooves were. Some great sounding blips and bloops but ultimately nothing that’s gonna have a lasting impression on me. Regardless, some fun bops I can definitely see myself getting silly to in someone’s shed. Calling it 3.5 Fav track : chemical beats Side note I forgot to add yesterday that the devendra banhart album was a 2.5 not a 3, but also might downgrade it to a 2 idk
