1001 Albums Summary

Smooth and funky. An album to start my personal journey through 1001 albums -- yes indeed, "Let's Get It On"

In the 90s, some contemporaries -- sociology grad students, undergrad art students, writing teachers -- liked Wu-Tang. At the time I thought they were appropriating Asian culture (this was before I had those words to express this). While not a fan of the raw language or the impromptu dialogue, as I finally listen to this album for the first time, it's a win, purely as a sonic experience

Growing up in the Seventies, even in an isolated small town, of course I heard "Black Magic Woman" and "Oye Cómo Va" on the radio. However, until today I had not listened to this album, on which those songs appear. While I occsionally enjoy jazz, Woodstock-style psychedelica, or Latin music, I'm not an enormous fan of these genres -- and yet their fusion works here.

Can you imagine hearing the opening chord for the first time in your life? What an amazing album, not even among their very best, but here they start to explore more widely the sonic playground, taking the world along for the ride.
