this album really is a product of its time as in that musically its great as an album but looking at it with the modern lense of how we now listen and perceive music nowadays it hasnt aged the best due to the simple subject matter of a lot of the songs being political issues in the 70s it really is only stuck in that time period except for songs like jealous guy which is really the stuff john pulls off better being these strong ballads of pure emotion that dont try to be anything more than a personal look at john himself. as a singular entity this album is truly great but as a collection of songs it comes off a little bit flimsy in parts and a lot of that is due to its subject matter which is also the main reason the songs from this album are so hard to cover, the thing about this album is that you have to look at it from a historical music stand point to really get the full potential of it and with the modern age of playlists and short form content, other than a few songs, this album doesnt hold up like it used to but like i said as a full album it is pretty great if we look at this album purely from a musical standpoint it has aged almost perfectly with amazing production on "i dont wanna be a soilder mama" giving this echoing haunting effect (which does go against it with it starting to become droning to listening to after a while) and harrisons guitar solo on "gimme some truth" truly pulls the entire thing together for me. speaking about gimme some truth if i had to pick one best song from this record that would have to be it, its also one of the only ones that holds up very well today lyrically and musically. id also have to give honourable mention to how do you sleep which maybe didnt age the greatest with its lyrics directed at paul mccartney it still holds up very well musically, another honourable mention has to go to oh my love and oh yoko, the first being a truly beautiful song that just feels so perfect and the second just being a a fun and sweet bookend for the album
