Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Sep 21 2023

Early 90s alt-dance-hip-hop-reggae hybrid. That’s a lot of hyphens. I feel like this must have been on in a bar or three that I spent time in back then. It’s background-y, but well-executed.

Sep 22 2023

I gave it as open minded a listen as possible, but I’m sorry: it was dull then, and it’s still dull now. The best facet of the band from an instrumental perspective is Grohl’s drumming, which isn’t a factor here. The best riffs belong to the Meat Puppets (credited) and Killing Joke (famously not credited). And the best music in general is made by those less interested in becoming a cadaver.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Sep 25 2023

While I’m more of a Priest/Uli Roth-era Scorpions guy as ‘70s metal goes, there’s no denying that this one’s a classic.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Sep 26 2023

Not my favorite of the original Steely Dan run, but still pretty great.
