Great percussion/rhythms, notable Afro-Cuban beats. Feels surprisingly fresh for 1970, although some nice 60's psychedelic flair. Couple of well known classics.
The hits, THE HITS! Such a banging start to the album, first few songs have you off and going on a wild ride. There's a reason you know these tunes- they shred. Some beautiful changes of tempo with songs like Black Days and Blackhole Sun sprinkled in with Spoonman and My Wave. Great creativity in mood and lyrics, and all basking in the glow of Cornell's golden pipes. From low to high, whisper to howl, what a voice. As when this album was brand new to me, I still find a lull in the back half where my interest wanders, although some nice moments on the B-side too.
Not my scene. Lovely voice, but maudlin to the max.
