Machine Head by Deep Purple
Oct 06 2023

A classic and influential rock album but I’m not fully convinced it’s aged particularly well.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Oct 09 2023

I’m glad popular music has evolved past this style. My favorite Elvis songs, in which there aren’t many, are not on this album. My favorite songs on this album have versions by other artists I like much better. Realistically, whatever was innovative or spellbinding about Elvis during his time is not captured simply by listening to this album.

Oct 11 2023

There are some unexpected departures from the signature sound of the Smiths on this album, with notable emphasis placed on keys, acoustic guitars and, at times, a sound that leans on old rockabilly motifs. Lyrically, probably not Morrissey’s finest work but he’s as consistent as ever vocally. Johnny Marr’s guitar playing is less prominent on this album than previous Smiths works but it still shines. 3.5/5 Standout tracks: A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours, Girlfriend in a Coma, Paint a Vulgar Picture

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Oct 13 2023

This one may require a re-listen. It wasn’t my favorite style but the album had multiple interesting vocal, lyrical and guitar moments. I respect what they were doing even if it’s not 100% for me. Standout tracks: Spellbound, Monitor, Night Shift 3/5

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Oct 16 2023

This is a classic jazz album with some tremendously influential and prominent jazz standards. It's not necessarily my favorite jazz album ever, but it's still essential and steady. Standout tracks: Blue Rondo a la Turk, Take Five 4/5

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Oct 17 2023

Greatly appreciated this one popping up in the generator, as I’m on quite the Talking Heads kick at the moment. Love this album - it’s quintessential to the band’s discography. Silly, funny, at times scary, and endlessly groovy. Standout tracks: Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), Crosseyed and Painless, Once in a Lifetime, Houses in Motion 4.5/5
