1001 Albums Summary

Blue Suede Shoes - okay but nothing too memorable, basic blues shite and okay vocals. I'm Counting on You - a bit more pleasant than the first track, kind of like the doo-wop flavor I've Got a Woman - leave it to Ray One Sided Love Affair - just annoying - both vocally and instrumentality I Love You Because - feels like he changes his the tone of his voice to "fit'" the track and it doesn't connect here. Just Because - not much to say - unremarkable Tutti Frutti - Inoffensive but mid cover Trying to Get to You - maybe the best one so far, better vocals for sure i'm gonna sit right down and cry (over you) - Just very similar instrumentation to every other song with even more annoying vocals I'll Never Let You Go (Little Darlin) - 🥱🥱🥱 Blue Moon (Take 9/M) - just many better renditions Money Honey - one of the better renditions on the album but still rather forgettable and hopefully the final Elvis song I will listen to

Five Years - Great tone setter for one of the earlier concept albums Soul Love - Love the 60s bubblegum twanged sound at the start, seamless transition from Five Years, great genre fusion Moonage Daydream - beautiful glam anthem, classic on a classic record Starman - Emotional high point and great transition to the next stage of the album It Ain't Easy - heroin song, and in a good way tbh Lady Stardust - immaculately placed power ballad, clearly an influence to much of late 70s soft rock Star - while not my favorite on the album, another track that showcases the limitless exploration of Bowie on this record Hang on to Yourself - probably the "punkiest" song on an album that clearly was very influential to the genre that decade Ziggy Stardust - the poots classic of the album. Timeless gem, I'd hear a 10 argument Suffagette City - another showcase of unreal musical exploration for the time. Amazing song Rock 'n' Roll Suicide - impactful closer and cinematic ending to the albums narrative. *I'll say 5 stars but would be 4.5 if I could. Lean 5 over 4 as it is a classic.

Wild that this was the last run for the group - first two tracks immediately show what made The Smiths what they were - swooning deep vocals and instrumentation that gives a jangle flavor to the dominant trends of the 80s. Love the coda to Death of a Disco Dancer Girlfriend in a Coma is kind of a snoozer to me, but love the energy and emotion in Stop Me if You think you've heard this one before Last night I dreamt is also a bit of a snoozer for me Love the melancholy energy in Unhappy Birthday, feel like paint a vulgar picture is a tad drawn out Really enjoy the variety of styles on Death at One's Elbow and the emotional closer. I probably lean around 3.5 stars but I'll go 3. Solid album with highs and lows for me
