I had never heard any of these songs, but found it a cohesive collection for a live album. Really loved the overall vibe and sound. The iconic BB King guitar is always amazing to me
I own this album. I can say that 14 year old Nancy Miller enjoyed it much more than current me. Freddy Mercury is a genius, but many of these songs did not hold up for me. Notable exception is Killer Queen, which still rocks.
I know this is an important work but the combination of forced theme, juvenile lyrics, and Eminem’s whiny voice made this absolutely painful for me.
I confess that I did not finish it.
I thought this was very fun to listen to in an 90s nostalgia kind of way. I recognized about half the songs, but honestly it all blended into one long tune. The punk-pop lyrics are sprinkled with lines that make me smile. Things like “Sometimes I give myself the creeps”.
I am surprising myself by giving a 5 rating to a hard rock album. But must say the Van Halen sound is still appealing to me. Of course lots of memories attached to the classic hits.
I also really like David Lee Roth’s voice.
I could list to it every 10 years and never get tired of it.
This was tough to rate. Every song was really different than the one before or after it. Some really worked for me, but others seemed annoyingly pop-ish.
I was settling in on 3 for most of the experience … but after I finished it, I found myself wanting to play it again. To hear the lyrics if nothing else.
So that bumped it up to a final 4.
Enjoyed several songs. (Feel like I remember Teenage Riot?)
But others just seemed to drag on and went too ‘metal’ for too long for me enjoy.
This album did nothing for me.
‘Holding Back the Years’ was a big deal when it came out. It was different from the typical 80s pop sound and it got a lot of attention. I remember really liking it and it still sounds good to me.
‘Money’s Too Tight’ also got some air time. Did not work for me then or now.
All these female jazz singers just leave me spellbound.
While Vaughan’s style is not as distinctive as some others, her voice sounds like a true instrument to me. Her range is astonishing, the vibrato used to great effect.
I loved it.
The only Radiohead song I knew before this was Creep … so this was a surprising listen.
I really enjoyed the feel of this album, even if I could not get much of the lyrics (but also sensed they did not matter greatly). It had a unique and melancholic sound - there were so many times I would start to catch a glimpse of other bands, but then it would disappear. Maybe bc there is just so much going on here?
And maybe it’s bc I just listened to the Pink Floyd last week, but also got a bit of that vibe?

I don’t think I had ever heard of The Damned.
This frenetic-paced variety of punk wears me out. I guess it might have been fun in a dance club in my 20s … but right now I am feeling pretty sure I will never listen again.
Can see why it’s influential, but not working for me now.
This was a Meh for me. Did not inspire me either way. I doubt I would seek it out for another listen.
Some tunes were good, but vocals had a generic sound to me?
Thinking about why I enjoyed this so much more than our last punk album (The Dammed). Guessing that would be Johnny Rotten and also that a few songs were familiar? The raw energy seems very real.
I am sure I listened to this album in real time and thought it very edgy and avant garde. But today the Pink Floyd sound seems like the musical equivalent of shag carpet and bell-bottoms pants.
That said … it was still fun to listen again.
And I do think that title track ‘Wish You Were Here’ is a very good song.

Pretty sure my dad had this album as many songs were hauntingly familiar. Was surprised that there were so many prison-themed songs on there. I mean, I know he was singing at Folsom, but still …
Also kind of crazy it charted in 1968 with some of these lyrics.
Vintage 80s Pet Shop Boys was so bad it was good! (Think: What Have I Done to Deserve This?)
This more mature work wasn’t that bad. But it wasn’t that good either.
I did like My October Symphony on this album.
