Excellent album, testament to a certain period in time when rock music was still finding it's feet. I like the 'groovy' element in the songs, where the band takes it time to 'find' the riffs and groove. Solid 4.
A bit torn on this one. I love the introspective stuff but can't be bothered with the uptempo songs.
I'm not very big on hiphop but this is right up my alley. I love Eminem, Fugees, De La Soul and some Dutch hip hop (opgezwolle, osdorp posse, huilende rappers) and this seems to nicely fit in there.
Smooth rhymes, a positive attitude and atmosphere. Dig this. 4+ stars!
I'm pretty big on alternative music, grunge..everything from the 90's as those were my formative years. I can apreciate this album for what it is (a Dave Grohl solo album, his first outing after his friend and bandmate Cobain died which also led to the disbandenment of Nirvana, arguable the most iconic rock band of the 90's)
This is..not their best album. It's nice for what it is, but it lacks punch. Mediocre, but the band would go on to do much better things.
Love her voice, have heard the singles before (her cover of 'someone like you' is one of my fav sad songs of all time) but hadn't heard her cover of 'lovesong' before, like it very much.
4 stars, she would go on to do even bigger & better things!
I appreciate it's place in rock history but to me personally this is a 'meh'. Not a bad album, far from it. It just doesn't do anything for me.
Not my thing, expected more of it as I heard the name before.
So, this band was pretty hype in alternative rock cycles for a time. I might even have seen them live back in the day (my memory can be a bit hazy)
After giving this a fair chance I have to admit this just isn't my cup of tea. Musicianship, songwriting etc are all above par but..it just doesn't do anything for me.
Three stars because it's good, but just..not for me.
- I was a bit premature though the rating doesn't change. I actually like the later part of the album a lot more, added two songs to my playlists :)
I appreciate this album for what it is, and the place of Dolly Parton in the canon of music history. This is however, not for me.
I love this. Feminime, powerful and vurnerable.
