Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Dec 12 2023

Really smooth and fun to listen to. A lot of the songs have a similar kind of style which made a lot of the songs blend together. Haven't seen the movie but can imagine this being a killer soundtrack. Favorites: Little Child Runnin' Wild, Think - Instrumental,

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Dec 13 2023

I do not listen to many instrumental albums... So this was a bit of a challenge for me to get through. As a trumpet player, some of the playing on this album is WILD! Never in my life could I play notes as rapidly as he can. His fingers must be flying. A lot of the slower moments were really beautiful. I don't really like instrument playing that's too gritty or grimy, which pulled me out of a lot of songs. That's a big personal preference thing though, the playing itself was amazing. Some of the songs on this album got WEIRD. Which was cool but also a little mind-numbing. Favorites: Maesha Honorable Mention: Blues for Huey for shredding my last braincell apart with the drums

Elephant by The White Stripes
Dec 14 2023

This album was a lot more mellow and soft than I was expecting based on the song I knew from it. I don't hate a lot of the instrumentals, they're obviously pretty good. I'm just not sure that I'm a fan of Jack White's vocals though. You've Got Her In Your Pocket felt like it could have been really beautiful, but the vocals were kinda whiny and recorded weirdly. I think the back half of the album was a little stronger, some songs near the end were really cohesive. Favorites: In The Cold, Cold Night, The Air Near My Fingers, Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine
