Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Jan 03 2024

This was a soul album! Unexpected as the name Dusty Springfield always made me think she was a country artist. She has a pleasing voice, but ultimately I found some tracks to be drawn out and unable to capture my attention. I liked the spunky sound of Son of a Preacher Man best, but possibly because it was the only track I’d previously heard. Some of the more emotional tracks were enjoyable too, but became forgettable as they all sounded like fairly similar love songs.

A delight! Much different than my usual listening material. I was surprised to pick up on some 80s influence (on Ignoreland and The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight) but it does make sense and helps me to realize the linear evolution of music. Favorite track was The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight, followed by Nightswimming. Loved the lyrics and unique vocals. Instrumentals sounded characteristic of the band. Definitely coming back to this!

Kid A by Radiohead
Jan 05 2024

I had a love hate relationship with the opening few songs, which were instrumentally unique but difficult to contextualize. The album overall is extremely melancholy, emotional, and interesting to dissect. Anything I didn’t enjoy was made up for by its beauty in other places, as well as it’s honesty and rawness. (Also sounded not unlike Coldplay in a few places)
