My first album on this journey. Hoping for something I liked to kick it off. Got this instead. Blah. The Black Crowes were popular in my late teens and early 20s. Plus, I had just moved to Atlanta when they hit it big - so they were everywhere all the time. Besides a couple of good tunes, I am not a fan. Never have been. As for the album, 2 out of 5. I am not a fan of honky tonk in my rock and roll, and that is all this album is... music you would hear from a band on stage behind some chicken wire at the Double Deuce. "Twice as Hard" and "Jealous Again" - songs I have heard a million times. I can see the draw - especially at the time (early 90s), but both songs grate on my nerves... just not as much as they did 30 years ago. "Sister Luck" - an actual song I could re-listen to. This song is one that I remember liking back in the day, because it wasn't crammed down your ear canals 3 times an hour by friends or on the radio. Listening to it reminds me of my early days after I moved to Atlanta. Good times. "Could I've Ever Been So Blind" - similar sound to other tracks "Seeing Things" is a shameless rip-off of Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends" but cleaner and more hi-fidelity. Reminds me of the "Wonder Years". Cocker did it better. "Hard to Handle" - thirty years later I still have heard this song about 1000 times too many. Fine song I'm sure, but I am still sick of it. "Thick N' Thin" - ugh, good thing this song is less than 3 minutes long. "She Talks to Angels" - for me, this and "Hard to Handle" (among others) suffer because I was in Atlanta when the band hit it big - so you simply could not escape their music. You just couldn't. This made it difficult to like the Crowes after a very short while. Same with Drivin' n' Cryin' - GEEZ I hope "Fly Me Courageous" isn't on this list! "Struttin Blues" - whoa boy, we get it - your head is spinnin' round! WE GET IT. I'm really fighting the urge to give up on this album now and skip the last song. But I didn't! "Stare it Cold" - sounds like the rest of the deep tracks. But at this point, I am tired of the voice, the twangy guitars. Couldn't finish the last song. Pretty proud of myself for getting this far.
