The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Jan 11 2024

I like The Smiths but this whole album at once was a little too much for me. Very little variation in sound. A couple great hits on here but a couple weird songs as well.

London Calling by The Clash
Jan 12 2024

The title track sets a high energy punk rock tone, but the album quickly branches out, bringing in more relaxed jazz and blues vibes. Was not expecting so many horn sections on this album which is pleasantly surprising. Almost every song consistently between 3 and 4 minutes length. The Clash are more upbeat than I had previously thought, and most of this album is so far removed from modern punk music that it's hard to even think of them as a punk band rather than a 70s folk group (especially on Train in Vain). Solid album overall, not many standouts between the first and last song but no clunkers either with a fun variety of sounds.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Jan 15 2024

Sexy and funky! Didn't know Lennon was on Fame. Bowie's version of Across The Universe is...not great. Nice album, another case where the hits are first and last. Some sleepers in there but probably not gonna end up in my rotation.

Jan 17 2024

Great stuff, that harmonica never gets old. Mr. Tambourine Man is such a bop.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Jan 19 2024

Only learned at the very end that whole thing was improvised...super cool
