1001 Albums Summary

I have never been a lover of R.E.M, and this album didn’t change my mind. It was perfectly serviceable rock, but it didn’t blow me away at any point. ‘End of the world’ is a clear stand out and I liked a few other tracks, but I also found some tracks to be annoying. The back-up singer really took me out of a lot of the songs, his voice isn’t good. Nothing insulting overall, but no higher than a six, but I have to rate out of five so three seems the fairest.

I’d give this album 6/10. Three stars is the closest to that score. It was fine. No real stand out tracks for me. Background music and nothing more in my opinion. Never been a big U2 fan, so maybe that sways my opinion.

Some very enjoyable tracks on this album. I was pleasantly surprised by it, as I was never a big elvis costello fan.
