It's all about the poetry which of course is the Dylan way. Can certainly see how Dylan begat the folk rock genre. However it would not have happened if he had not hooked up with Robbie Robertson/The Band. Best = Maggie's Farm and Subterranean Homesick Blues. Weakest = None, no weak songs. Best song recorded by someone else = Mister Tambourine Man recording by The Byrds.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Feb 07 2024

Time has not been kind to this duo. I wouldn't be caught dead using the word "groovy" in a sentence. One great song; Homeward Bound. One Ok song; Parsely, Sage etc. One over rated song; The 59th Street Bridge Song. Who honestly remembers the other songs. Over produced, two many strings. This album could have used a "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" or two.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Feb 08 2024

Ah, the EARLY sixties. What was great music before the psychedelics temporarily took over? Strong women before Helen Reddy? Strong female singers thy name is Dusty. That voice. What can't it do. The range could have been a great crossover with an operatic mezzo voice. And how can you not fall in love with the vulnerability but strength of You Don't Own Me.Highly consistent repertoire, not a clunker in the bunch.
