Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Smashing Pumpkins
Knowing only a handful of popular tracks by The Smashing Pumpkins, I couldn't wait to dive into a full album! And seriously, scoring a two-hour, double-disc album as my first pick from this generator? That's wild! I love the word play on "melancholy" in the title of the album.
Disc 1 Vibes: Billy Corgan's voice is just iconic. These songs feel like being wrapped in a warm, fuzzy blanket of 90s rock nostalgia. Tracks "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and "Zero" are instant hits for me - no surprise there, since they were lead singles from the album. I also really enjoyed "Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans".
Disc 2 Vibes: Track "Thirty-Three" feels wildly personal. Its melancholic tone intertwined with hopeful lyrics about the future creates a hauntingly beautiful listen for this track. Then, there's the timeless classic "1979" - a signature Smashing Pumpkins track that practically everyone knows.
A solid 5 star album for me.

Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
PJ Harvey
First thoughts: This artist is new to me, and the album cover art is giving a nostalgic early 2000's vibe.
Her sound reminds me of Jewel, Alanis Morrisette, and Fiona Apple all intertwined. While I enjoyed listening to the album, I doubt I will revisit it for another listen. Nonetheless, I'd be interested in exploring more of her discography.
Replay: "Good Fortune," "A Place Called Home," "You Said Something," and "This is Love"
Skip: "Kamikaze"

MTV Unplugged In New York
Nirvana
First thoughts: I love recordings of acoustic/live performances, so I’m exited to see this album on the list. Spotify's bio says, "Nothing was ever quite the same after Nirvana." How true.
This unplugged album is a perfect display of Nirvana’s raw talent and their ability to effortlessly transcend genres. They’re pop. They’re punk. They’re grunge.
This is an album I’ll listen to again and again.

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan
First thoughts: Bob Dylan is regarded as an iconic songwriter, but I've not listened to much of his work. I am just familiar with some of his more popular hits that come across my Spotify playlists.
Dylan's lyrics have a lot to say about war, peace, and the civil rights movement - all prevalent topics during the time this album was released. This album has a beautiful acoustic-folk sound.
Replay: "Blowin' in the Wind,” “Masters of War,” and “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”
Skip: "Girl from North County"

Morrison Hotel
The Doors
First thoughts: Excited to hear some 70's rock!
This is another album that I appreciate listening to. The first few tracks were compelling, but the album lost momentum for me as it progressed. I enjoy the blues rock vibes, and I found a couple of new songs to add to some playlists.
An interesting note I want to remember: The Wikipedia page says the band didn't have permission to be photographed at Morrison Hotel for the album cover, so they did it while the clerk was called away from the desk.
Replay: "Roadhouse Blues," "You Make Me Real," and "Peace Frog"
Skip: “Blue Sunday” and “Ship of Fools”

Ritual De Lo Habitual
Jane's Addiction
First thoughts: The album art is awesome and sets the tone for some Spanish influence, maybe?
It pains me to not like this album, but I just….didn’t. I know Jane’s Addiction is pretty significant in their contributions and notoriety, but this album just missed the mark for me.

Band On The Run
Paul McCartney and Wings
First thoughts: I enjoy music from The Beatles, so I'm looking forward to this listen.
The fact that McCartney played multiple musical parts of this album is pretty extraordinary. Overall, this is just a feel-good album.

Born In The U.S.A.
Bruce Springsteen
First thoughts: The only Springsteen song I know is “Born in the USA,” so I this is a pretty blind listen for me.
This album fell short of expectations. Its lyricism felt weak, and I just didn’t connect with its themes.

Most of the songs on this album left me overstimulated because they had ALOT going on, but not in a good way.

Public Image: First Issue

While I appreciate the raw, experimental punk (or post-punk) elements and the undeniable passion in the lyrics, this album didn't resonate with me. It feels like the artists were excessively trying to be "out of the box".

Strange Cargo III
William Orbit
What an awesome surprise this album has been! I wasn't sure what to anticipate with no knowledge of this artist at all, but I’m thoroughly impressed. As a fan of instrumental music, I'm happy to incorporate this album into my rotation and explore William Orbit's work.
After listening to the first few tracks, I thought the sound reminded me of some of Madonna's work in the 90's. Turns out, he worked with her in that era. How interesting!
Replay: "Water From a Vine Leaf," "Time to Get Wize," "Gringatcho Demento," and honestly almost every track from this album.
