Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Feb 25 2024

Monster blues album. The opening track is a classic, Mannish Boy. The guitar voice and harmonica are all standouts of that Chicago Blues Brothers sound. Recorded in 1976 just seven years before his death from heart failure but at the height of his power. The only downside is that the sound has become so duplicated that some of it becomes uninteresting.

Feb 26 2024

Holy crap! 20 years?? I will always remember driving down the freeway listening to alternative radio when Hey Ya came on. My booty started bouncing in the seat all by itself. Hey Ya could be one of the biggest bangers of all time. Used to listen to this all the way through all the time. Big Boi and Andre3000 had mostly gotten into their separate projects at this point and the two discs on the double album are pretty much totally separate. Big Boi’s Speakerboxx is the southern rap is the first disc and Andre3000 sexy disc is full of all kinds of influences from funk to jazz and classical. Perhaps not as groundbreaking or party friendly as the earlier albums Stankonia and ATLiens but it is still my favorite OutKast

Melodrama by Lorde
Feb 28 2024

I was surprised to see Lorde on this list. And if you are going to have Lorde why not have the more groundbreaking Pure Heroine? This is good but not outstanding indie pop. There are a couple keepers on here.

1989 by Taylor Swift
Feb 29 2024

For all the Taylor Swift haters out there, sorry, this one slaps. Not a big Swift fan myself but this is the only of her albums I had listened to in its entirety previously. It’s a bouncy, dance picky me up on a slow day. Seriously crammed with hits and ear worms. Also I am a sucker for a good driving song and Style fits the mold for me. Good stuff.

Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
Mar 08 2024

Vintage rock turned up to 11. Like the Beatles or Dick Dale with heavy drums, fatter guitars and growly/screamy vocals. Unfortunately packed with covers but notable in their aggressive sound. Can hear their influence in bands like Nirvana and The Black Keys
