1001 Albums Summary

Never listened to this album or much of Kendrick Lamar before. He is the only artist aside from classical and jazz artists to receive the Pulitzer prize for music, which is pretty amazing. I liked the lyrics and rap style but not a big fan of the backing music and hooks. This album is classed as jazz rap / neo soul and it's a bit too 'easy listening' for my taste and while it's pleasant to hear, I didn't really sit up and listen to most of the songs. King Kunta was my favourite song - more of a funk / west coast hip hop style than the rest of the album.

I liked this well enough but it didn't have any emotional resonance. It was good blues rock and I'd listen to it again... reminded me a bit of earlier Rolling Stones. 'She talks to angels' probably my favourite track. Only track I recognised was 'hard to handle'.
