Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Apr 02 2024

The Beatles scurry mercilessly through this record. I was surprised to find this was the man who created the hit \"without you.\" My other favourite was \"the moonbeam song\", which I found enchanting. I can appreciate this album, and believe it would sound delightful spinning around on a record player, but it fell short in patches in terms of musical and lyrical variation. It has the emotion of a film soundtrack, and the production of a vinyl record. There is a story here, and with some more turns on the turntable I might be able to unravel and enjoy it more. It is also incredibly beatles-esque.

Eagles by Eagles
Apr 03 2024

A seminal debut album. Smooth production, easy listening, and sonically defining for music in the 70s. There is nothing immensely profound in many of these songs, (as compared to say, Hotel California...) but their 'good vibe' and 'easygoing' storytelling is rich in this record. There is a religion to this album, and an all-Americana influence, carving out that 'country rock' sound. Instrumentally, the album glows as well. An album to listen to on a desert road trip. Favourites: take it easy, witchy woman, nightingale, peaceful easy feeling (standout), tryin.

Imagine by John Lennon
Apr 05 2024

Not a hugeee fan of this record, Lennon was a strange bloke, but I have to hand it to him, he knows how to construct a song. Classic songwriting, and musicality, obviously beatles-esque, but I really didn't like his voice on much of this album. Although I prefer Roxy Music's rendition of 'jealous guy', it would have to be my standout from this record. Unfortunately 'imagine' has been tainted by the radio for me, overplayed to the point where it actually instills fear instead of hope in me. Unexpectedly liked 'how do you sleep?' , but could not stop laughing at 'Oh Yoko'. Yeah this isn't my favourite record at all. But I can see why it's liked, just not for me.

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys
Apr 07 2024

Fisherman's blues (the song) will always have a place in my heart. Bit of an eccentric album, but it has a lot of flesh to its bones.
